Tons of pictures from Paris and Portugal Speedy Style

Chris and I visited Paris and Portugal in June/July 2017. For those of the family who did not already see these pictures here are a few that are greater than the rest. We really have way too many to upload.

The Eiffel Tower. Did you think it was anything else? To get a picture like this you have to stand far far away.

 Chris took this awesome picture.

The best meal we ate in Paris was on a boat. We got to see the Eiffel Tower light up as part of the adventure. The movie for that is later down.

I believe this is Notre Dame. We got there early and avoided the long crowds. Take that.

This is totally Notre Dame Cathedral
We paid to climb up the winding staircases (there are lots of winding stone staircases in Europe) and we got to see the gargoyles. It's a pain that there is now a net in the way of good pictures now that selfie sticks were invented.

This is probably Saint Chapelle because it looks like it.

This is the catacombs underneath Paris. Going into here was the longest line we encountered and we stood in the sun for over an hour. Can you see the heart of skulls? They love that we came to visit.

Here is a town on an island. When the tide comes in it's almost impossible to reach the 40 or so people that actually live here. It is Mont Saint Michel.

This is from Portugal but I can't find which place it's from right now. Sorry dudes.

Back to the Eiffel Tower of course. It was about 97 degrees Fahrenheit when we took this. We did buy ice cream shortly after.

 The bells of....

Here is the Arc De Triumph

 Isn't this shop cute?
It looks like ice cream but it is really a whipped cream filled fruit crepe.
 St.Chapelle I believe
St. Chapelle is famous for its windows if hadn't noticed.

 A gate leaving st. Chapelle
The lion in the middle of the road when we waited in line to see the bones of dead people.
The bones of dead people. These are in the catacombs of Paris.

 Mont st. Michel again.

One way to reach Mont St. Michel or you can walk like we did (after taking a train and then a bus to get there of course).
The fun narrow streets of Mont st. Michel.

The abbey place of Mont St. Michel

Below you can see a collage of the stained glass windows taken from our trip to Paris and Portugal.
I am too lazy to put this into my movie software and turn it the right way around. Enjoy sideways blinking Eiffel Tower lights.

Door knobs from Portugal because they are cool and old looking.

Sidewalks in Portugal are equally cool looking.

Stairs in Portugal. I think we climbed these a lot. There are like 4 or more of these sets of stairs to get the hill.
Our first night in Portugal just happened to be Sao Jao or St. John's festival. Basically you hit strangers on the head with plastic hammers and try to escape the people hitting you with them or the long garlic sticks. Also it's impossible to avoid the smell of smoke because for some reason Europeans smoke way more than here. Then you see fire works from the bridge  (Porto Portugal) at around midnight. They were a half hour late to get started.

Here is a big rock on our hike leading up to some church...

Just as we got lucky to hit a major holiday we also landed in the middle of a Renaissance Fair expectantly. This was on the way to see
Castelo de Guimaraes and the dukes house called Paco dos Duques de Braganca.

Not catacombs like in Paris but more dead people beneath feet here too.

 Most likely Mother Mary
These are statues from a water/boat ride tour we took that featured Portugal's navy.
My very favorite place we visited:The
Palace of Pena
 It had hiding towers
 cool stuff inside
 very short beds
 a large kitchen
and several different building styles on the outside including
Moorish, Arabic, Hispanic, and classical

Looking out from the castle of Pena you can see this place simply called Moorish Castle. We went there too.
And walked through here to get there. We saw very very tiny frogs here that were smaller the size of a quarter.

From the Moorish Castle looking back at the castle de pena.
 ramparts of the Moorish castle

A cave that is on the property of Quinta da Regaleira. The house was impressive from the outside constructed in a new-manueline style.

This is looking down the initiation well from Quinta da Regaleira.

Here is the house of Quinta da Regaleira
I ate these every day for breakfast because they are good. They are Pastel de nata
 Amanda near the ocean

Yes we did get to ride these things.
This one might have been in Lisbon, Portugal. We visited Porto, Lisbon, and Sintra.
so cool I can't remember what building its from
a random building that we walked past from our hotel room in Porto Portugal
The inside of McDonalds in Porto
another of those place that the Portuguese name escapes me.

Red roofs are the way to go.
Inside one of our hotel rooms

The stairs leading down from the hotel room in Porto. So just in case you didn't get enough stairs during the rest of the day take six more double lights up before you can rest. :)
Find the entrance to our hotel room....I'll give you a hint. It's the skinny black door right between the shop windows.
Here is a picture from the inside of the train station
I am pretty sure this is Jeronimos monastery (famous for the recipe of pastel de nata) because the pictures below it are from the monestary.

Portugal is famous for its blue tile. It is everywhere.

No longer Jeronimos monastery. This is a bridge. We crossed it a few times by foot on the walking spot.

This is a person posing as a statue during St. Johns festival.  The white person below is the same thing. They could hold incredibly still and were like this (although not constantly I imagine) for 2 days.

Have a movie! Here is one of The Castle de Pena

 From the train station?
 A monument to Christopher Columbus
A temporary art exhibit by the Columbus monument
I am smaller than the sailors

A tower place were a violinist was performing. There are some very good street performers in these places.

Not exactly a place we "visited" but we had to walk through here to reach the columbus statue and/or a bus stop.

Have a movie of Saint Johns festival.

Have a movie of a place I can't remember. Yup, you're welcome
